Merger of Clinton Road and Manor Surgery

Posted on June 30th, 2021

We want to let you know that the proposed merger between the two surgeries has now been approved by NHS Kernow.

From the 01 July 2021, we will be renamed and known as Leatside Health Centre.  It may take us a little while to make all the changes for the new name, but this is in hand and you will see the changes, such as website names and signs in due course.  Our contact telephone numbers will remain the same.

General practice nationally and locally is under pressure, and in April 2020 the two practices started working together on the Manor Surgery site to maintain a safe service for our patients. This was driven by a long standing consideration of the potential to merge, but exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with long term absences of senior GP’s due to ill health. Together we are more resilient and can provide better primary care services to people in Redruth. This is also in keeping with both local and national NHS priorities to strengthen primary care and develop integrated services locally.

Now the merger has been approved, it allows us to make steps in how we improve our service, again we want to thank you for your patience and understanding.

There are practical issues that we still need to resolve to provide the standard of service we would like, for example the Manor Surgery building has about half the space we need.  This is being addressed, and we are working on an alternative, although sometimes these things do take time.

As we stated in our proposed merger letter, Clinton Road surgery is on a steep site with difficult access both outside and within the building. This can cause problems for anyone with a physical disability. The building is a converted residential property and is not suited to modern general practice. It is also sited in a busy residential area, and we know people who drive to their appointment sometimes have trouble finding a parking space.  This building will be sold, and is currently for sale.

All our GP services will be delivered from Manor Surgery or Redruth Health Clinic, should the second site be approved.  This will allow us to provide patients access to local GP services from 1 central site, with additional car parking and good access to public transport.

During the pandemic we have treated more patients without the need for a face to face appointment, and that option will continue to be part of the future way of working. Some patients prefer this, unless the doctor needs to see them for clinical reasons, and find it more convenient. However we know many people do prefer a face to face appointment, and as the pandemic pressures reduce we will review how we bring patients into the surgery.

We will have the space required to provide other services and more care locally, if the use of Redruth Health Clinic is approved. We are committed to working together with other local health and care organisations to make sure people have joined-up care that meets their individual needs.

We want to retain strong links with our patients and offer continuity of care throughout. We have organised ourselves into two smaller teams within the surgery, so you can continue to experience a family practice, where you will generally receive care from doctors and other staff you know well.

The application for a revised boundary has also been approved.  If you are already registered with us, you will remain registered with us, unless you wish to move to another practice.  The revised boundary allows us to serve people in Redruth and the surrounding areas to the East and South. It does not include Camborne and surrounding areas to the west of Redruth.

In future, people outside the proposed new boundary are still able to register with the practice, but they will be classed as an out of area patient and would not be entitled to home visits.
